Dal Tadka

North Indian yellow dal with a fragrant ghee tempering.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Toor Dal (Arhar Dal)
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 4 cups Water
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Dried Red Chilies
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1 Tomato, chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pressure cook Toor Dal with water, salt, and turmeric for 3-4 whistles.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and dried red chilies.
  3. Add onions and sauté until golden. Add ginger-garlic paste and tomatoes. Cook until soft.
  4. Pour the tempering over the cooked dal, mix well, and simmer for 5 minutes. Garnish with coriander.
